The Varden Hotel, an exquisite and authentic Downtown Long Beach Hotel, takes all its visitors through a modern, unforgettable experience. The hotel, which dates back to 1929, has been a prominent landmark of downtown Long Beach for over 80 years.
The resort’s name comes from an eccentric circus performer, Dolly Varden, who had a passion in collecting jewels. Legend states that one of her admirers, a wealthy man from Long Beach, wanted her closer to him. For this reason, he bought the entire hotel for Dolly, who moved there in an instance. They continued to live in the hotel’s top floor, inside a penthouse, until 1950, when Dolly Varden died and was buried in San Francisco near her lover.
Although the hotel has been recently renovated, its roof still shows the “1935” sign, which has an important historical significance. This sign was given to the hotel as a symbol of his landmark status. The remaining basis of this status, which was given in 1995, is the sign’s shape and silhouette, along with the letter’s typing style and the use of neon-metal supporting struts.
Facilities and Near-by Attractions
As you first enter the Varden hotel you get to experience an European-style boutique resort, which is full of contemporary history and design. Organized in 35 facility-enhanced rooms, the hotel’s ‘green’ heart comes from its unique mini-rain showers and low-flow toilets which can be found in every room. In addition, each hallway presents 5 old airshafts which are now used as natural light sources, thus reducing the hotel’s electrical power consumption during daylight.
All guest rooms boast 9-foot ceilings, which are enhanced by custom-made glass desks and shelves, large HDTVs, newest designer furniture and lighting, plus state-of-the-art climate and air conditioning. What’s more, all the beds and mattresses were specifically tailored for the Varden Hotel, so you won’t be able to find them anywhere else. Bathroom’s sleek elegance comes from the white round mosaic details, custom-tailored sinks and super-plush linens which provide the highest comfort grade.
During evening and late afternoon guests may choose to serve light snacks and a wine right in the hotel’s lobby.
The Varden Hotel distinguishes itself from other Long Beach Hotels due to its close distance from the city’s main attractions. Many guests choose to reside here because of the resort’s proximity to the Long Beach Port. This “historic-chic” destination is just one block away from the stylish restaurants of Pine Avenue and just four blocks away from the famous Long Beach Convention Center Hotel. You’ll also reside within a walking distance from the Rainbow Harbor, Pacific Aquarium, local beaches, museums, and many other attractions.
All in all, the Varden Hotel brings you the European Long Beach experience nobody would want to miss.
